Work in Progress, 2025
Group Exhibition
Strange Field, Glasgow
Curated by New Glasgow Society
‘Work in Progress’ offers a unique way to experience artwork in exhibition, as the viewer is aware of the fact that any piece featured will likely change before it meets the public again, in some cases becoming unrecognizable. In this context, the idea of the exhibition as the start of something becomes far more active, as public opinion and interaction appear before the stage something might be considered artwork.
The work selected for the group exhibition was 'A Golden Menace'. A box-shaped creature with a gold exterior, stood up right with three legs and six flamboyant nails. The creature was made as a literal interpretation of a "Money Box," clashing with the surreal world of creature making. I like to think the character of the creature can be seen through its spiky show-off gold exterior and sassy nails. You can look, but you can't touch. I imagine him wandering through fields collecting gold, both found and stolen, and greedily storing it in his box, which is how he gets his shiny gold look.
